Rob Lowe was 'required' to film steamy sex scenes in the 80s, now it's 'unusual' for an actor

When it comes to steamy sex scenes onscreen, Rob Lowe has some thoughts.  During a recent episode of his "Literally! With Rob Lowe" podcast, the veteran actor sparked up a conversation with guest and "Sex and the City" alum Kristin Davis about the history of sex scenes in Hollywood and discussed why they've gradually become taboo.  While chatting about Lowe's 1988 film, "Masquerade," which he starred in alongside "SATC" star Kim Cattrall and Meg Tilly, the actor recalled the studio dumping the movie because it was "too sexy." "I know, can you imagine such a thing?" Davis said. ROB LOWE RECALLS FILMING HIS 'ABOUT LAST NIGHT' SEX SCENES WITH DEMI MOORE: IT’S 'VERY BORING'

Lowe admitted the sex scenes were "pretty gratuitous." "But it was great. It was sexy," he added. "I wish we had sexy movies now. Nobody has sex scenes in movies anymore." Shifting the conversation to the 2024 erotic thriller starring Nicole Kidman, "Babygirl," Davis said that it's still "unusual" to see sexy films these days.  "We’re like, ‘Oh, thank God someone made a sexy movie,’ like, it’s an unusual thing now," she said. Lowe agreed and admitted it's a double-standard to dub actors "brave" for participating in sex scenes.  "Oh, when they’re like, ‘It’s so brave. She’s so brave.’ She’s ‘brave’ because she has a sex scene. Like, that’s brave now, and in our day, it was required." In 2021, Lowe made a similar revelation regarding his sex scenes with Demi Moore in the 1986 romantic comedy, "About Last Night."  LIKE WHAT YOU’RE READING? CLICK HERE FOR MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS

"In those days, there was a sex scene in every movie," Lowe told Yahoo! Entertainment at the time. "Every script I used to get, I would go to page 73, because that was always where the sex scene was! It didn't matter if it was a movie about priests and nuns, on page 73 there was going to be a sex scene. Today, you'd watch 17 movies and never see people with their clothes off unless [the movie] is about that."  CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP

"They're not fun," he continued. "They're not a hall pass, as much as you would like it to be. They're very technical, and usually very boring. I don't know if you've had to kiss anybody for eight hours straight — it's not fun! It's not all you bargain for."

Dollar set for best week since November on US rates, economic outlook

By Rae Wee SINGAPORE () -The dollar was on track for its best weekly performance in over a month on Friday, underpinned by expectations of fewer Federal Reserve rate cuts this year and the view that the U.S. economy will continue to outperform the rest of its peers globally. The greenback began the new year on a strong note reaching a more than two-year high of 109.54 against a basket of currencies on Thursday as it extended a stellar rally from last year. Its charge higher has come on the back of a more hawkish Fed and a resilient U.S. economy. "Looks like dollar strength is here to stay for now in early 2025 given the U.S. exceptionalism story is here to stay, and it still comes with high U.S. yields," said Charu Chanana, chief investment strategist at Saxo. "Add to that the uncertainty from policies of the incoming (Donald) Trump administration, and you also get the safety aspect of the dollar looking attractive." Ahead of U.S. President-elect Trump'...

Trump push to use tariffs to pay for tax cuts faces opposition in Congress

By Jarrett Renshaw, David Morgan and David Lawder WASHINGTON () - U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing a plan to explicitly use revenue from higher tariffs on imported goods to help pay for extending trillions of dollars in tax cuts, an unprecedented shift likely to face opposition from many of his fellow Republicans in Congress. The U.S. collects less than $100 billion annually in trade penalties imposed on imported goods as a tool to protect and grow domestic industries. That money is rarely a topic in Washington's routine budget battles because it makes up so little of the federal government's revenue.  Trump has threatened across-the-board import tariffs, but has yet to impose any. The president and his allies say he wants to use them much like the personal and corporate taxes that account for the vast majority of U.S. revenues, notching up tariffs to help pay for government programs and cover promised tax cuts.  "Instead of taxing our citizens to enrich other...
