Will America’s crypto frenzy end in disaster?

“G et your $TRUMP now ,” came the message from America’s president-elect three days before his inauguration. The commander-in-chief’s meme cryptocurrency, the aggregate value of which has so far peaked at almost $15bn, is far from the only sign of the administration’s ardour for digital assets. One new government department ( DOGE ) has been christened after another meme coin. It is now quicker to list people close to the president who do not have significant financial interests in crypto than those who do. For anyone not paying attention, an executive order on January 23rd made things clear: digital assets, it announced, would play “a crucial role in innovation and economic development in the United States, as well as our Nation’s international leadership”. AstraZeneca scraps £450m vaccine plant in Liverpool after Labour funding cut

AstraZeneca has cancelled plans for a £450m vaccine manufacturing plant in Liverpool, blaming a cut in funding from government. The investment, announced last year in the Tories' spring budget, was dependent on a "mutual agreement" with the Treasury and third parties, it was said at the time. It will no longer go ahead because Labour ministers have offered less funding than their predecessors, the pharmaceutical giant said. An AstraZeneca spokesperson told Sky News: "Following discussions with the current government, we are no longer pursuing our planned investment at Speke. "Several factors have influenced this decision including the timing and reduction of the final offer compared to the previous government's proposal." The money would have expanded an existing site in Speke and was hailed at the time as a "vote of confidence" in Liverpool and the UK's life science sector. The AstraZeneca spokesperson said that the ...

LUMAGICA in Innsbruck - what to expect

As twilight descended upon Innsbruck, we ventured into the Hofgarten, where LUMAGICA awaited — an impressive series of lights displayed throughout this historic park. The park dates back to the 15th Century having been initially created as part of the imperial gardens for the ruling Habsburg dynasty. And this annual light festival, running from November to February, transforms the gardens into a realm of enchantment, inviting visitors to experience the magic of peace, love and family. LUMAGICA dates back to an installation at Hückelhoven, Germany , where an installation was displayed on a former coal hill. The concept has since been extended to locations all over Europe, including Warsaw, Trondheim, Barcelona , and – of course – now Innsbruck. It’s a spectacle that will delight young and old alike. The over one-kilometre circular route is adorned with illuminated bicycles, trains, trees and much, much more. Midway through your journey, the...
