Matheus Cunha: Brazil forward says he wants to take Wolves to 'another level'

Matheus Cunha says he wants to take Wolves to "another level" and that a recent interview in which he seemed to imply he needed to leave the club had been misinterpreted. Brazil striker Cunha said in an interview with the Observer that he has told Wolves he needs to "take the next step" and fight for titles in his career. The former Atletico Madrid player has a £62.5m release clause in the four-and-a-half-year deal he signed in February. Speaking in a social media video on Monday, the 25-year-old said people did not have "correct interpretation". "It's impossible for the player to be honest in an interview knowing that everything can be taken in any way he wants," he said. "I don't think a lot of people read the interview, and I don't think that people have the correct interpretation. Of course the point was talking about Wolves, to show everyone how happy I am to be here, to play for this team, to play for these team-ma...

Trump trade war: Why a figure of 48% is important as escalation nears

Here is a number to lodge in your brain in the coming weeks and months: 48%. Last year a group of economists carried out an an analysis on the economic impact of the Iron Curtain; how much trade actually took place from east to west in spite of all the restrictions during the Cold War. They came to the conclusion that, at its height in 1951, "the Iron Curtain represented a tariff equivalent of 48%". As the world limbers up ahead of what Donald Trump calls his "liberation day", that figure is worth keeping in your mind. Right now, the average dutiable rate of tariffs on China is somewhere between 30% and 40%. But in the event that the president imposes another 20% of tariffs on China, the level of tariffs between these two trade partners will rival or possibly exceed those Iron Curtain levels. Bruno Fernandes: Man Utd captain will not leave this summer says head coach Ruben Amorim

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says he has told Bruno Fernandes he will not allow him to leave this summer. Club captain Fernandes - who signed a contract extension until 2027 last August - has been United's star player this season. Over the weekend reports emerged linking the 30-year-old with a move to Real Madrid. "No, it's not going to happen," said Amorim, when asked about the rumours in his news conference before Tuesday's Premier League trip to Nottingham Forest. When asked how he could be so certain, the former Sporting coach added: "He's not going anywhere because I've already told him." There was the familiar spark in Amorim's eyes as he delivered the message, suggesting he was having a bit of fun. Fernandes has scored 16 times in all competitions this season while no other United player has reached double figures. In the final week before the most recent international break, Fernandes scored five goals, includin...

Gene Hackman judge rules on death scene images after family argues ‘grotesque’ pictures could cause trauma

Photos and video showing Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa Hackman's deceased bodies along with audio discussing the topic will not be released to the public, a judge ruled Monday. However, the judge ruled the final autopsy report, toxicology report and depictions of the deceased animal could be released to the public. Lawyers for Hackman's estate argued the dissemination of images, video or audio showing or discussing the deceased would cause an "unnecessary media frenzy" during Monday's court hearing. "What we're really talking of, Judge, is my client's father, who lay dead for some amount of time, and all of the grotesque pictures that go along with that and the conversations of deputies discussing that," a lawyer for Hackman's family said. "There is no limit to the trauma that could cause my clients for years to come with that information, as the media publicist already testified to, would likely show up on the internet or in podc...

Chelsea report pre-tax £128.4m profit after sale of women's team

Chelsea have reported a pre-tax profit of £128.4m in their financial results for the year ending June 2024. The figure was an improvement on the first full year under the ownership of Todd Boehly's Clearlake Capital consortium, in which the Premier League club announced pre-tax losses of £90.1m. Chelsea's overall revenue fell from £512.5m in 2023 to £468.5m, which the club attributed to the absence of Champions League football for their men's side. The club credited the profit to the "disposal of player registrations" worth £152.5m and the "repositioning" of their highly successful women's team. Chelsea announced a restructuring and a long-term strategic plan for the women's team in May 2024 which saw them sold to become a standalone business from the men's side while remaining a part of the club owners' wider portfolio. Chelsea said matchday revenue increased to £80.1m for its financial year, from £76.5m in the previous results...

Players Championship 9: Gerwyn Price wins second title of 2025 against Ian White as Luke Littler suffers early exit

Gerwyn Price won the ninth Players Championship of 2025 with an 8-4 victory over Ian White in the final, as Luke Littler went out in the third round. Price produced a superb 140 checkout in the fourth leg - the highest of the match - to take a 3-1 lead and kept his composure in the remainder of the contest at the Leicester Arena. Welshman Price averaged 94.67 to White's 96.99 and had fewer 180s - three to six - but his checkout success of 34.8% versus 28.6% proved crucial. It was Price's second Players Championship tournament win of the season following last month's success in Wigan. "I didn't feel too good at the beginning of today - was a little bit up and down in games - but that will give a me boost for the Premier League next week," Price told the PDC.
