PWR semi-final: Jade Konkel calls for Harlequins to show physicality

Premiership Women's Rugby semi-final: Saracens v Harlequins Date: Saturday 1 March Kick-off: 15:00 GMT Venue: StoneX Stadium Coverage: Live commentary on BBC Radio London and the BBC Sport website Harlequins captain Jade Konkel says she is relishing the latest chapter in their cross-town rivalry with Saracens as the London sides meet in Saturday's PWR semi-final. The two teams contested the first three finals after the women's top flight was relaunched in 2017, but this is the first play-offs meeting since Saracens won their 2022 semi-final. "It has been a great rivalry, ever since I joined the Premiership back in 2018," said Scotland number eight Konkel. "It makes it that little bit more special because you know it is going to be two teams properly going after it." The two teams have shared the spoils from the regular season, both taking away wins from visits to opposition territory. Saracens' 33-10 success at the Stoop was part of a ...

Excitement builds for Oscars - but Hollywood still reeling from wildfires

As Hollywood celebrates the film industry at this weekend's Academy Awards, not far away from where finishing touches are being put to the red carpet, communities are still coming to terms with the impact of the wildfires which ravaged areas of Los Angeles earlier this year.  Prop master Adam Jette - and his wife and son - lost their home in Altadena. "Even coming back into the neighbourhood is really, really hard," he tells Sky News. "You're coming back to what it is, which is a disaster site, the whole neighbourhood is gone." He says he and others in the same position have no choice but to keep going. "We all have to keep working in order to support ourselves, in order to have our health insurance, in order to be able to move forward and rebuild. "And yet the only thing you want to do is just, you know, sit there in misery." In Hollywood, few productions have had to be paused because less is being shot here these d...

Joel Embiid injury: Philadelphia 76ers star ruled out for rest of season with knee issue

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been ruled out for the rest of the season because of an ongoing issue with his left knee. Embiid, 30, has featured in just 19 of the 76ers' 58 games so far this season. The seven-time All-Star played just 31 minutes in a 105-103 loss to the Brooklyn Nets last week after sustaining a fall which left him with a swollen knee. The Cameroon-born 2022-23 MVP underwent surgery for a meniscus tear in the knee in February 2024 and was limited to 39 games last season. It is the second high-profile injury in the NBA in the space of two weeks after San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, the number one draft pick in 2023, was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder which will likely see him miss the rest of the season. The 76ers said in a statement on Friday: "After further evaluation, it has been determined that [Embiid] is medically unable to play and will miss the remainder of the season to focus on treatment and reha...

UK Open: Luke Humphries ends Beau Greaves' historic run with 10-7 win to reach last 16

Luke Humphries fought back to claim a 10-7 victory and end Beau Greaves' history-making run at the UK Open. Women's world number one Greaves became the first female player to reach the fourth round of the tournament with wins against Stefan Bellmont, Rhys Griffin and Mickey Mansell earlier on Friday. The 21-year-old then led 7-5 against the men's world number one, but Humphries won five successive legs to secure his place in the last 16. "She belongs in big-time darts," Humphries told ITV4 afterwards. "She belongs in this environment. She really did test me there and if we were in a Premier League game she would have beaten me." Greaves, the reigning three-time women's world champion, opened with a 126 checkout before taking out 124 to break for a 2-0 lead. But Humphries worked his way back and, after his win, he called Greaves back to the stage and the pair bowed together in front of the crowd at Butlin's Minehead Resort. "To play...

Armand Duplantis: Olympic champion break's men's pole vault world record for 11th time

Armand Duplantis improved his own men's pole vault world record to 6.27m at the All Star Perche event in Clermont-Ferrand, France. It is the 11th time Olympic and world champion Duplantis has broken the world record in his career. The Swedish 25-year-old secured victory at the event with a clearance over 6.02m before he attempted to improve his record mark, set in August, by one centimetre. Duplantis did so with his first attempt, five years after breaking the record for the first time with a height of 6.17m in February 2020. He improved the world record to 6.25m when winning a second successive Olympic title at the Paris 2024 Games last summer and then went a centimetre higher in late August in Poland - the third occasion he improved his mark in 2024. Duplantis' first world record, which he achieved aged 20, beat a mark set by France's Renaud Lavillenie that had stood for nearly six years. He has continued to progress the record in one-centimetre increments ever ...

Additionally, the last time an event was noted on Hackman's pacemaker was Feb. 17. Mendoza insisted during the press conference, "The manner and cause of death has not been determined." What experts say about childhood vaccines amid the Texas measles outbreak

Even as Texas grapples with a measles outbreak that has already left one child dead, the childhood vaccination schedule is coming under new scrutiny by the Trump administration. The recommended list of immunizations starting at birth protects kids against more than a dozen deadly diseases from measles to whooping cough. U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a known vaccine skeptic,  included vaccines on his list of things to investigate to see if they have contributed to chronic diseases. And the future of the federal system for weighing the risks and benefits of vaccines in order to make recommendations is in limbo. Yet health experts overwhelmingly credit vaccines for measles and other preventable diseases as huge public health successes. For instance, before a measles vaccine became available in 1963, nearly all children got the highly contagious disease by the time they turned 15 and about 400 to 500 people in the United Stat...

Information from Gene Hackman

Police say it is a "reasonable assumption" that actor Gene Hackman died when his pacemaker had its "last event" on 17 February. Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead in separate rooms of their home in a gated community in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Wednesday. One of the couple's three pet dogs was also found dead near Arakawa. Their deaths were announced yesterday and an official later said the condition of the bodies indicated the pair had been dead for "several days, possibly even up to a couple of weeks". In an update on Friday, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said data from Hackman's pacemaker appears to suggest the day he died. "The last event [of his pacemaker] was recorded on 17 February 2025," he said. "According to the pathologist, I think that is a very good assumption, that was his last day of life." Mr Mendoza said officials are yet to ascertain when Hackman and Arakawa's las...

Blake Lively shut down by judge in Justin Baldoni case for 'overly intrusive' request

A judge shut down Blake Lively's "overly intrusive" request for Justin Baldoni's phone records in the heated legal battle. Lively's legal team subpoenaed the phone records of Baldoni and others involved in the courtroom showdown over an alleged plot to ruin the actress' reputation. However, Judge Lewis Liman partially denied the actress' request in an order filed Friday and obtained by Fox News Digital. "The Court put a stop to Ms. Lively’s egregious attempt to invade our clients’ privacy," Baldoni's attorney, Bryan Freedman, told Fox News Digital in a statement. "This is a big win. No matter how the Lively Parties may try to spin this decision, the Court saw their efforts for what they really are: a desperate fishing expedition intended to salvage their debunked claims long after they already savaged our clients’ reputations in the New York Times." JUSTIN BALDONI CALLS OUT BLAKE LIVELY FOR DEMANDING PRIVACY AFTER PUBLICIZIN...

Microsoft is shutting down Skype: What other technologies have become obsolete?

Microsoft has announced it will shut down Skype, once the dominant video call service, in May this year. At its peak, the service boasted more than 300 million users, but that number had fallen to more than 36 million users, according to the most recent figures shared by Microsoft in 2023. The US tech giant, which bought Skype for $8.5bn in 2011, will shift some of its services to Microsoft Teams, its flagship videoconferencing and team applications platform. Skype users will be able to use their existing accounts to log into Teams. From Blackberries to floppy disks and MP3 players, Sky News looks at other pieces of software and hardware that were once ubiquitous but are now obsolete. Image: An old mobile phone.
